Quality Food Centers is one of the largest supermarket chains in the Washington State area with more than 75 stores in Puget Sound. It was established by Jack Croco a veteran manager of supermarket chains who started with a store called Lake Hills Thirftway at Bellevue, Washington in 1956. Thriftway’s name was later changed to Quality Food Center in 1963 with the very first store in existence at 6600 Roosevelt Way Northeast. The growth of Quality Foods Center is due largely to acquisitions of other supermarket stores such as Olson’s Food Store, Reed’s Super Value, Stock Market Foods etc. This allowed them to expand to Southern, California and Portland, Oregon.
