Piggly Wiggly Weekly Ad
Piggly Wiggly was founded in 1916 by Clarence Sanders as the first self-service grocery store in America. Because of the inconvenience of getting shoppers to be present their orders to the clerk who would then gather the items for them, Piggly Wiggly found a great opportunity to introduce solutions to their clients. Now, their clients can move around the grocery and pick up what they need for themselves. Although it was controversial in the beginning, shoppers began to embrace the idea.
Piggly Wiggly is also known for being the first to provide checkout stands, mark prices for every item in the store, feature a full line of nationally advertised brands and put their employees in uniform. As Piggly Wiggly continues to offer their products and render their service, many grocery adapted many firsts that Piggy Wiggly introduced.
