Meijer Weekly Ad
Meijer was established by a local barber named Hendrik Meijer in Greenville, Michigan in 1934. In order to meet the needs of his customers, he and his son invested on merchandise worth $328.76 on credit. Because of hard work and dedication, they were able to expand their business with the use of fancy metal shopping carts and newspaper ads. Meijer pledged his support to war efforts. As a matter of fact, the soldier’s wives played a big role in the business’ success.
After the war, Meijer started to progress and continued to expand. They were the first ones to use the conveyor belt to boost speed in the checkout lane and they consistently make use of new technology for the convenience of their customers. Today, Meijer is considered as one of the largest one-stop shop in the state. Their services include home décor, pharmacies, clothing and more. They currently operate in 189 locations, most of which are in Michigan while some are in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio.
